Troopers, Police To Saturate Roads On DUI Patrols
The Fourth of July holiday is considered a party weekend by many Americans, and police have altered their tactics to crack down on drunk drivers.Local police and Ohio state troopers will use saturation patrols instead of checkpoint stations to identify intoxicated motorists and get them off the road.“There's a lot more parties going on, a lot more people staying close and you see a lot more impaired drivers,” said Lt. Anthony Lauer of the Ohio State Patrol’s Lebanon post.Troopers will double, and occasionally triple, their number of patrols throughout the weekend near Lebanon, Hamilton and Batavia. They will team up with local police departments to saturate interstates, highways and county roads.“We are aggressively looking for OVI drivers,” Lauer said.Troopers will begin their crackdown during Thursday night’s shifts.
