Robbery Attempt Closes West Chester Schools
Gunman Taken Into Custody Following Incident, Police Say

WEST CHESTER, Ohio -- Two West Chester schools were placed under lockdown Thursday afternoon following a nearby robbery and standoff.Police said a man pulled into a driveway in the 4300 block of Yacht Haven Way around 1:40 p.m., and an armed man attempted to rob him as he got out of his car.The gunman fired several shots at the victim, who fled to a house and hid in the basement, and the gunman followed him inside.
"I heard two loud gunshots, 'Pow, pow,'" said Josh North, who was playing football outside his grandmother's house, where the gunman hid. "I ran in the house. (It's) scary. You don't see nothing like that around here."Police arrived and surrounded the home, and officials briefly closed Endeavor Elementary School and Lakota West Freshman Center as a precaution.Robert Lillard Jr., 18, surrendered to police and was taken into custody.Police said they did not know how the woman was related to the incident, and they said they were not sure if the victim knew the robber.The incident remains under investigation.
